Perparatory Works
Check the structural integrity of the timbers to be treated and remove any severely infested timber. Ensure that any new timber is treated with a suitable preservative. Ensure that cut ends of timber are also fully treated with eg Permatreat FI Paste. In areas affected by fungal decay take all necessary actions to eliminate the source of dampness and to promote drying out. In roofs thoroughly clean all timbers with a stiff brush. Remove any insulation materials to allow full access before application of fluid.
To allow adequate access to all floor timbers and joist ends lift floor boards at intervals of 1 metre. Clean all timbers with a stiff brush. Paint or similar surface finishes should be removed from all timber. Remove all floor coverings, furniture and fittings which either hinder good working practice or may be damaged. Isolate electrical circuits in treatment areas. Cover water tanks thoroughly with polythene sheeting. Display warning notices at strategic points prior to treatment and leave on site after treatment. Ensure written safety details are given to persons due to occupy treated areas.
