Quick Overview
Details
High impact backing plaster is a pre-mixed, dry bagged, anhydrite-based plaster, especially formulated for use as a two coat system in a conventional application. The system provides a smooth, white, hard, durable surface unparalleled in its resistance to impact and casual damage. The finish is easy to decorate and readily accepts all water based paint systems.
High Impact Backing Plaster is suitable for use on most common internal wall surfaces and its ability to be re-tempered for up to two hours is a major factor in reducing waste.
Applications
High impact backing plaster is suitable for all normal backgrounds including common brick, aerated concrete block, lightweight aggregates, fairfaced and common dense concrete blocks and cavity drainage membrane systems such as Perma-Seal, Newton or Delta meshed membranes.
High impact backing plaster is not suitable for use in areas of high humidity and wet areas such as swimming pools or for use on gypsum based plasterboards.
Preparation
All surfaces should be sound and thoroughly cleaned to remove dust and other friable material. Mixing Do not exceed a mixing time of more than five minutes when mixing by machine. When mixing by hand add half the contents of the bag to approximately 9 - 10 litres of water and mix. Then add the remainder of the bag and mix (add more water if required). High Impact Backing Plaster will be easier to use if it is allowed to stand for a few minutes before it is applied to the wall.
Application
Two coats of High Impact Backing Plaster are applied to a total of 15mm. The first coat is trowel applied giving a cover of approximately 6mm. (on application to a Cavity Drainage Membrane make sure the plaster is pushed into and behind the mesh, filling the stud structure). This should be scratched to create a key for the second coat. Apply the second coat to a thickness of 9mm. Either leave the second coat as the final finish or skim coat with a normal plaster for an even smoother finish. Fire Resistance High Impact Backing Plaster is non-combustible as defined in BS 476 : Part 4 1970,
