Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane - 5kg

Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane is a two-component, solvent free, low odour epoxy resin membrane that is tolerant of residual moisture in concrete floors. This enables earlier access onto the floor for the application of screeds, coatings and other floor coverings including tiles, vinyl, wood and carpets. It has good chemical resistance to mild chemical attack but is designed to be over-coated with other resin finishes.

Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane can be used on concrete floors and fine concrete screeds, of not less than 50mm thick in the case of un-bonded screeds. The surface should be of sufficient quality and mechanical strength to ensure an even coating.

The product can also be applied to polymers, screeds and certain types of smoothing under-layments, provided these are well bonded. These under-layments must be stable to the effects of water. If not then the concrete floor must contain an integral damp-proof membrane to prevent further ingress of water from the ground.

Where the product is laid onto a concrete surface where there is no damp poof membrane or where damage may have rendered the damp proof membrane ineffective you should give due consideration to the possible presence of hydrostatic pressure and the consequences of creating a barrier layer resulting in the pressure/water flow being directed elsewhere.

Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane is always installed in a minimum of two coats 24 - 36 hours apart. For floors with a high RH Reading above 92% three coats are required. Once mixed the product has a usable life of approximately 30 minutes depending on site conditions. Past this point the product cannot be used for further coats.

Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane dries clear, if you require a coloured finish we recommend 2 coats of Epoxy Resin Floor Coating after Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane has been installed.

If you wish to lay tiles or adhere any further coatings including self leveling compounds on top of this coating we advise that you blind the final coat of Liquid Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane with Fine Quartz Aggregate 30 minutes after laying the coat to provide a key for the tile adhesive or grout to bond to.

Solved our damp problem!

We moved into an older house and on pulling up some vinyl in the conservatory found out there was a bit of a damp problem. As the conservatory was built ad-hoc by the owner about 20 years ago it became clear that there was no dpm installed. We didn't want to rip up the entire concrete floor to treat it but we couldn't put anything on top of it either so we looked into liquid dpm options. Many of the others required a further layer of screed on top of the dpm, as it was fragile, and we didn't have the height to add another layer so finding this stuff was perfect as vinyl can be laid directly on top given that it drys hard. We mixed half of it and used a small nap roller to apply, giving it 20 hours to dry, before mixing up the rest for the second layer (we mixed it in a separate bucket as the instructions say not to mix in the cans otherwise it needs to be used quickly). We kept the room as warm as possible with a little heater and after the first night it was still a little tacky, although definitely drying, and by the second night it was rock hard. There is no more damp coming through and we can rest easy putting the vinyl down so would fully recommend if you are in a similar situation to us.

Also, on price, whilst it does seem a lot relative to others at first glance, do bear in mind that this covers a lot more ground than others claimed to. We only need 1 tub of this but would have needed 3 tubs of the other 5 litre liquid dpms, plus no screed, so good value overall, even if it is still a bit pricey.

Permagard Reply:

Hi Katy - thanks so much for taking to leave such a detailed review. We really appreciate this level of feedback and we know other customers do too. Also, great news that the product did the job. Many thanks Steve

Seems a good product

I was using it on a concrete floor which had resin anchors sticking up, so it was difficult to add an ordinary polythene DPM. The initial sample I tried took forever to dry (3 days to non-tackie), at concrete temperature 7C and room temperature 10C. I warmed the room to 10C & 15C respectively and found it was 1 day to just non-tackie (overcoatable) and 2 days to just walk on, and 4 days to reasonably hard.
Very good surface and bonding to concrete slab.

good product

used on a shop floor which had to be trafficked the next day, went off without any drying issues so don't understand why others are experiencing delayed drying times, may be because they didn't use all of both parts mixed together?
No need to flood the floor, just apply and scrape back residue with metal float, second coat is even easier to apply, does what it should at a fraction of the price of the Ardurit product

Seems okay so far

we bought this for a floor affected but not badly damp. Timely delivery, easy to mix and spread. Nightmare to dry....4 days now and its still tacky. I accept it is cooler now and a little more damp but if I had known it delayed curing this long I would have looked at something else.

We are DIY amateurs, used this on a damp, poor quality old concrete floor with no dpm

Used on poor quality, old concrete floor which had no dpm so was often damp and produced growths of crystalline salts. We were apprehensive about applying it but found it much easier than expected, despite our DIY inexperience. Not too smelly! Our problem was getting the floor temperature high enough for the resin to set, since it was winter and an unheated room. A year on it has done a great job: a shiny clear surface which is dry, tough and non-dusting. Just one small area where it hasn't gripped: an old stone set in the floor in front of the fireplace and probably soaked in grease and fireblack, so not surprised. Overall, very pleased with the outcome.

Good product review

This product is of exceptional quality and standard and was cheaper at Permagard than other online retailer. It left no odour and was really easy to apply. Really pleased with the results.
