Liquid Roof Waterproofer
A high quality cold-applied liquid roof membrane for waterproofing a range of roof substrates. This rubber-based waterproof roof coating bonds directly to virtually any substrate to provide a smooth and seamless waterproofing system. It is designed for ease of application and to last longer than other roof waterproofing methods.
In most situations, this is an ultra-convenient one coat roof waterproofing system, with no need for a primer. It is ideal as a primary waterproofing layer for green roof systems. A primer is required on porous or friable surfaces.
Uses of Liquid Roof Membrane
Durashield can be used to create a liquid roof membrane in the following scenarios:
- Green Roof - prior to the installation of a green roof system on both pitched and flat roofs
- Flat roof waterproofer - an ideal long-lasting waterproof membrane for flat roofs
This seamless rubber waterproof coating can be used on the following substrates:
- Weathered Asphalt & bituminous Surfaces
- Concrete, Brickwork, Fibreglass and GRP
- Wood - weathered Plys, OSB/Plywood, Wooden Substrates & EPDM.
- Metal
Consult technical data sheet for more information on when a roof primer is required.
Green Roof Waterproofer
Durashield is ideal for green roofs as a primary waterproofing layer. It has been developed specifically for overlay applications where a longer life expectancy is required. It can waterproof both wood and concrete surfaces along with existing felts. Simply install the liquid roof membrane before adding the root barrier.
See our Growers Green Roof Kit and Starter Green Roof Kit.
Installing a liquid roof membrane
As a one-coat system, Durashield is designed for easy installation with no need for mixing.
Preparation
Make sure you are wearing suitable protective clothing including gloves and goggles.
Start your preparation by cleaning out any splits or cracks in the roof substrate, and repairing as required with reinforcing scrim. Brush the surface with a stiff bristle brush.
Some substrates will need to be primed. Consult manufacturer’s data sheet for specific information.
Coverage
Single coat: minimum of 1 litre/m²
Built-up system (wet-on-wet): minimum of 1.5 litre/m²Applying the liquid roof waterproofer
Stir the liquid roof waterproofer well before use. You can now apply a generous coat of Durashield Waterproof Roof Coating by brush, roller or squeegee.
Scrim should be used for all fixings and protrusions like upstands, curves, skylight bases and rainwater outlets. Reinforcing Scrim is embedded into the wet Durashield. Make sure you avoid any creasing of the scrim. Adjacent lengths of the scrim must overlap by 75mm. Finish with an additional coat of Durashield over the scrimmed area.
Important note: Don’t apply on a frozen or damp surface or in hot direct sunlight DO NOT APPLY to frozen or damp surfaces. You should apply at temperatures between 5°C and 25°C.
DRYING TIME
The liquid roof membrane is water repellent to rainfall immediately after application. Drying time is up to 8 hours or overnight depending on temperature and condition. Full cure up to 7 days.
Note: For cleaning use White Spirit.
