A powerful bitumen-based self-adhesive membrane ideal for tanking external structures in conjunction with PermaSEAL Geodrain membranes.

Self-adhesive bitumen membrane

PermaSEAL Self-Adhesive Tanking Membrane is designed to protect below-ground structures from water ingress. With a powerful bitumen adhesive, it is an efficient way to tank an external retaining wall before applying a PermaSEAL 8 Geodrain membrane. It forms part of a reliable external waterproofing system, protecting below ground structures from water ingress.

Each PermaSEAL tanking membrane brings together the following elements:

  • a cross-laminated and tough Valeron film that is puncture and tear resistant, and offers immediate protection against rain and UV
  • a powerful sealing adhesive incorporating bitumen rubber to provide an effective seal on a range of substrates

This combination creates a crack-bridging tanking membrane that is tear-resistant and flexible, making it ideal for external applications. It also saves time as you can install your GeoDrain Membrane system immediately after application of this tanking membrane.

Uses of PermaSEAL Self-Adhesive membrane

This bitumen-based self-adhesive tanking membrane is suitable for the following applications:

  • underground structures such as cellars and basements
  • retaining walls in gardening and landscaping
  • reservoirs

Installing a self-adhesive membrane

PermaSEAL self-adhesive membrane is easy to install even in tight spaces. It can be quickly cut to size and applied like wallpaper, providing an immediate seal to a range of substrates.

Preparation

Make sure the surface is clean, free of debris and smooth with any sharp edges removed. Cavities should also be repaired with a suitable mortar.

Once the surface is suitably prepared, you can apply a bituminous primer. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to determine the correct amount of primer for your conditions.

Ideally you want to apply the self-adhesive membrane on the same day as priming.

Applying the self-adhesive membrane

Follow the manufacturer's instructions closely (supplied with the product). The following is a basic guide to installation.

Cut the PermaSEAL sealing membrane to length before rolling it back up. You can now remove the protective layer of paper from the underside section by section, sticking the membrane sheet onto the surface from top to bottom. Push firmly to ensure a good seal, starting at the centre of the membrane and moving outwards.

Any joints between subsequent layers of membrane should overlap by a minimum of 100mm. You need to use a pressure roller on all joints to make sure a good seal is achieved. For end overlaps, aim for 150mm.

Important note: Store the self-adhesive membrane upright and on warm days, in a cool and shady place.
