More information on Damp Proofing Membrane

At Permagard, we sell a variety of high quality damp proofing membranes. Different types of damp proofing membranes are available depending on the intended use, finish required and the amount of damp and contaminates you need to control.

We stock damp proofing membranes with an overall sheet thickness of between 0.5mm – 1mm and with varying stud sizes from 1mm – 8mm.

Damp Proofing Membranes Key Uses:

Our range of damp proof membranes can be used in the following situations:

  • Isolate damp walls
  • Isolate salt contaminated walls
  • Provide a key on deteriorating surfaces
  • DPM under a new concrete slab or above an existing concrete floor

Damp Proofing Membranes for Walls

We stock damp proofing membranes, also known as cavity drain membranes, that can be applied internally with little or no surface preparation. These can be used immediately after the insertion of a new damp proof course to isolate the new finish from existing salt and damp contaminated walls. The cavity created by the membrane stud contains between 3 – 10 litres of space, known as the "Air gap". This air gap allows the substrate to breathe and dry out over time without impacting your wall finish.

Damp proofing wall membranes can also be used when the existing surface is deteriorating and a key is required. These membranes have a mesh welded onto the face for direct rendering then plastering or dot and dab plaster board.

Most damp proof wall membranes are made from HDPE and have a high compressive strength and a long life expectancy (over 30 years). They are extremely flexible and have an elongation break of over 40% therefore they are able to deal with structural movement. This means they provide longer lasting damp proofing solutions.

Installation

Installing a Damp Proofing Membrane is simple and straightforward. You simply cut the wall membrane to size, place it to the wall, neatly folding it around any corners. Next, you drill and fix the membrane to the wall before applying your wall finish.

Some damp proof wall membranes have a plain finish for use either as a floor damp proof membrane with a screed or floating floor finish.

DPM Floor Membranes

We stock a range of 1200 gauge DPM membranes to protect properties against moisture in the ground. The floor DPM range manufactured by Capital Valley Plastics is designed for use with solid concrete floors. The membranes can sit above or below the slab. They are durable and puncture resistant, being able to cope with site traffic. The DPM membranes are available in 4M x 25M rolls as well as a handy pack ideal for smaller jobs.
