Recycled Cavity Drainage Membrane - Black
PermaSEAL 8 Eco X Black is a high quality cavity drain membrane manufactured from 100% recycled HDPE. It can be used for waterproofing retaining walls, floors and vaulted soffits, and is ideal for basements and cellars as well as in above ground applications.
The recycled membrane’s 8mm stud profile provides 5.3 litres of drainage volume per m2.
Applications of Eco X Membrane
Our recycled Eco X membrane can be used in the following applications:
- waterproofing structures below ground level such as basements, cellars, soffits, vaulted ceilings (provides Type C protection)
- isolating damp walls above ground level
Type C – Walls and Floor
As a cavity drain membrane, the Eco X can be used below ground as both a wall and floor membrane as part of a Type C Waterproofing System. To provide this protection, it needs to be used in conjunction with other PermaSEAL products such as a PermaSEAL Sump and Pump system and Drainage Channels for evacuating water from a building. We also stock membrane tape, overtape and corner strips for sealing membrane joints.
Construction
The PermaSEAL black cavity drain membrane is suitable for use when constructing a Grade 3 dry environment in accordance with BS8102:2022 – Protection of below ground structures against water ingress. This applies for both domestic and commercial use. Read our full guide on how to comply with BS 8102 for more information.
Note: All cavity drain membranes should be permanently protected against UV Light. Failure to do this will dramatically decrease the service life of the product.

Whilst being made from 100% recycled raw material, PermaSEAL 8 Eco X is still manufactured with performance in mind. It is made to a higher density than other membranes in its class which increases its compressive loading stability. This makes it ideal for flooring applications. It is guaranteed for 30 years and has a life expectancy of at least 50 years (DIN 9001:2000). As an inert product, the Eco X is highly resistant to water and a range of contaminants. It’s easy to install too – you can even cut the membrane to size using scissors.

Finishing
This recycled waterproofing membrane can accept a range of wall and floor finishes. PermaSEAL Quick Plugs and Brick Plugs accept screws – this means you can add batons and metal lath systems. These can also be insulated before the addition of a plasterboard finish.
Fixtures, fittings, walls and staircases can be built off PermaSEAL 8 Eco X membrane.
Installing PermaSEAL 8 Eco Membrane on a floor
This basement floor membrane should be installed along with drainage channels and a PermaSEAL sump pump system to provide Type C protection for property owners.
Finishing
Once the eco membrane has been installed, you need to protect it. It can accommodate insulation, underfloor heating, screed and floating floors.
