PermaSEAL 8 Clear is a BBA approved cavity drain waterproofing membrane for use internally, both above and below ground. It’s suitable for walls, floors & vaulted ceilings.
Clear Cavity Drain Membrane
PermaSEAL 8 Clear is a high quality, high density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane. With a stud depth of 8mm, this versatile BBA-approved clear membrane is suitable as both a wall and floor membrane.
PermaSEAL 8 can be used in the following applications:
- waterproofing structures below ground level such as basements, cellars, soffits, vaulted ceilings (provides Type C protection)
- isolating damp walls above ground level
The 8mm stud profile provides 5.3 litres of drainage volume per m2.
Type C waterproofing
PermaSEAL 8 Clear is a clear cavity drain membrane. It is suitable for use in accordance with BS8102:2009 to provide ‘Type C drained protection’ to structures below ground. It also provides a Grade 3 dry environment suitable for domestic or commercial use.
When you are looking to achieve ‘Type C’ protection, you will need to use a PermaSEAL Sump and Pump system in conjunction with this clear basement membrane (unless passive drainage is available on one side of the building). It also needs to be maintained throughout the lifetime of the installation.

PermaSEAL 8 clear membrane is guaranteed for 30 years and has a life expectancy of at least 50 years (DIN 9001:2000). This inert product is highly resistant to water with high compressive loading stability. It’s easy to install too – you can even cut the membrane to size using scissors.
Installing PermaSEAL 8 on a wall
When installing PermaSEAL 8 clear on a wall, you should use our innovative PermaSEAL Quick Plug.

This BBA-approved clear waterproofing membrane can accept a range of wall and floor finishes. PermaSEAL Quick Plugs and Brick Plugs accept screws – this means you can add batons and metal lath systems. These can also be insulated before the addition of a plasterboard finish.
Fixtures, fittings walls and staircases can be built off PermaSEAL 8 Clear membrane. When used as a floor membrane, it can accommodate insulation, underfloor heating, screed and floating floors.

Can I render or dot and dabb over the PermaSEAL 8 Clear Waterproofing Membrane?
No, the membrane is designed to be baton and boarded over or have a metal track or independent wall placed in front. You cannot bond to this membrane, you would require the PermaSEAL 8 Mesh Membrane for that application.
