What are the fixing centres for installing meshed membrane?
Meshed membrane would require 15 fixings per square metre. Four plugs are fixed in a square formation at 350mm centres. A fifth plug is then fixed in the centre of the square, creating the '5 on a dice' look. As the pattern is repeated, the fixings will end up no more than 250mm apart.
Can I fix the meshed membrane over a plastered wall?
A skim plaster would need to be removed before installation, as gypsum plaster can deteriorate in a damp zone. If the render behind is stable it could remain, but it's difficult to remove the plaster only, so more often than not both the plaster and render must come off.
Can the meshed membrane be used on the floor?
This would not be suitable to be used as a floor membrane as the mesh structure can create issues with subsequent screeds. PermaSEAL 8 Eco Black, PermaSEAL 20 Floor or PermaSEAL 8 Clear are all suitable for the floor and are more cost-effective.
How do I render over the mesh membrane?
For a lighter and faster finish application, Tarmac Whitewall One Coat can be applied in two coats, each 6mm thick. It's also possible to apply sand/cement render or PermaSEAL Renovating Plaster in two coats, each 7mm thick, with both options requiring a 7-10 day drying period between coats to help prevent cracking.
How do you incorporate corners?
The membrane is flexible enough to complete 90° internal and external corners. We would suggest creasing the membrane around corners before fixing.
Can this membrane be applied to all types of wall constructions?
As long as the wall isn't too undulating or has any sharp voids or protrusions. In some cases, stone walls in particular will need a levelling coat of sand/cement or voids can be filled and levelled with PermaSEAL Fillet Seal. Not recommended in the case of 4 1/2" single skin walls. A waterproof render and/or tanking slurry is sometimes a better option.
