Domestic Property Renovation & Structural Repairs, Bristol – Case Study
The client: specialist contractors delivering structural repairs
Storm, an experienced damp proofing, waterproofing and structural repair contractor, undertook the works as part of a full domestic property renovation and conversion in Bristol.
The brief: stabilising the building ahead of conversion
Prior to its conversion into six self-contained flats, the property required targeted structural repairs to address visible movement and localised weaknesses within the masonry. Several external walls showed signs of bulging, stepped cracking was evident in sections of brickwork, and a number of existing lintels required additional reinforcement to ensure adequate long-term support.
The goal was to restore full structural integrity across all three floors before follow-on renovation works could begin. This required the introduction of lateral restraints to tie outer masonry back to internal floor structures, crack stitching using helical bars embedded across stepped cracks to strengthen affected areas, and lintel reinforcement through the installation of wider helical bars above existing openings to stabilise and support the brickwork above.
Given the scale of the property and the extent of works required, the repair strategy needed to deliver consistent, reliable strengthening across multiple elevations, ensuring the building was structurally sound and ready for redevelopment.
The challenge: working safely on a large multi-storey property
With the building spread over three levels, much of the work required safe access from height using scaffolding. Working at height meant that careful planning, robust temporary access solutions and precise positioning of fixings were all essential to maintain safety and consistency across the full elevation.
