More than just waterproofing

While MicroShield ULTRA stops direct damage from water penetration, it also works to protect against secondary effects of moisture. This includes efflorescence - where water-soluble salts form on the surface of masonry as a white, chalky deposit - and moss and lichen growth.

It’s easy to attach any number of claims to a product, but how do you know it’s really working? When you apply MicroShield ULTRA, within 7-10 days, a beading effect will develop on the surface. This will last for 2-3 years, depending on the condition of the surface and its exposure. Water will bead on the surface and run off, giving clear visual proof that the product is protecting the building.

There’s no film on the surface, so the appearance of the property won’t change, and the waterproofing doesn’t affect the building’s breathability. The active ingredients, silane and siloxane, line the pores of the masonry but don’t block them completely. This maintains water-vapour permeability and creates a ‘breathable’ system.

Noticeably warmer

Damp walls are much less effective at insulating, with relatively small levels having a big effect. For example, 4% humidity in masonry can decrease insulating capacity to 50%. When you apply MicroShield ULTRA, water uptake by walls is reduced by at least 80%, improving the thermal performance and keeping it at a high level. As the reviewer below experienced firsthand, this leads to a noticeable increase in temperature inside - reducing energy costs and making the property much more comfortable.

Easy application

We’ve designed MicroShield ULTRA to be easy to apply at scale. It only requires a single coat and has a reassuringly thick, creamy consistency that makes application straightforward and allows for overhead workability. This avoids wastage through spillage and drippage, as the reviewer below points out. But it also means it adheres to the wall, where it remains white for 30 minutes, so you can see where you’ve already applied it. This further reduces waste, as it prevents you from unknowingly covering sections twice. As the second reviewer found out, thinner, inferior products are much more difficult to apply.

Not only does it make your life easier during application, but its creamy consistency is part of the reason it's so effective. Because of the long contact time with the surface it’s applied to, it can penetrate deep into the substrate and create a durable bond when it lines the pores.
